The Mavins are at it again!

INFLATION is eating us alive and food prices are reaching a level of UN-affordability. It's all over the news,....at least in Africa the people have the good sense to RIOT,....while WE sit on our thumbs. A farmer on CNBC said: "We farmers deserve higher prices for corn and soy beans." WHY? WHY DO THEY DESERVE HIGHER INCOMES WHEN WE ARE HURTING? On top of the higher prices,..THEY GET GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES. WHY? Subsidies are WELFARE FOR THE FARMERS. Again WHY?
Farmers large and small own lots of land, they are LAND BARONS, they are not poor.
Farming is a part time job; they till, they plant, they wait, they grow and finally they harvest. Usually, in their waiting mode they work in high paying jobs as heavy equipment operators.

Ethanol from food crops is partly to blame for the increased prices at the food stores. The farm lobby did a great job in BUYING our Senators and Congressmen to vote on Ethanol from food crops as a SUBSIDIZED bonanza for the growers. ANd THEY, whomever THEY may be are developing seed that will produce increased yields from an acre of land,...by significant amounts. If they net greater yields per acre, will our food prices go down. NO WAY! THE GREEDY FARMERS WILL WANT TO POCKET THAT AND SAY,..."WE DESERVE IT!" Then they will purchase more land so that they may receive more subsidy from the government. (read you and I,...or should that be , you and me?) I want to know where is OUR VIGORISH? How do WE get a piece of the action?
Maybe we should ALL GO AND APPLY FOR WELFARE. I FEEL THE NEED TO GET SOMETHING BACK.
EVERYONE ELSE IS GETTING SOMETHING,...WHY SHOULDN'T WE GET SOMETHING. ARE WE CHOPPED LIVER?

If I were a younger man I would take a good hard look at Canada as a place to live.
At least that government gives you something back. HEALTH INSURANCE!!!

agreeing to disagree is the Amerian way. I will give you some first hand knowledge, (and my only real knowledge) of a farmerws life. I know this farmer who lives in So. Illinois. He presently owns 500 acres of farmland on which he used to grow corn and soybeans. He OWNS two poieces of farm equipment both of which cost over 150K dollars. Paid for! He now grows corn in ALL of his fields and in the winter months he comes to his second home in Florida and usually visits with me. His Friends also have around 500 acres and they are doing the same thing. Godo Luck to them, but don't suck my money away to pay them to grow NON-food crops. (Corn for ethanol.) Let's see, first the subsidy to grow the corn, then the over inflated price of corn, then the inflated prices of food because there is a shortage of,...yeh, corn. It seems to me that the price of all of this WELFARE is just too high. It's not like farming is brain surgery. And then when the time is ripe he will sell to a DEVELOPER that our congress ALSO WANTS TO SUBSIDIZE. Hmm, I should have been a farmer.
P.S. My freind is looking to buy another 300 acres of farm land in the same area. Why not? He can probably get paid for NOT FARMING IT. ribit, ribit that really is some s---!

Of course, you are correct. Generalizing and lumping all of any category into a small sample is usually a disaster but the truth is that I have not met a POOR farmer yet. Playing golf last Monday I met a farm owner from Iowa. Guess what he grows. He doesn't even farm his land, he partners with a tenant farmer so that he can spend the entire season in Florida and play golf.
Nice guy, lovely wife and a beautiful automobile.
What am I to think?

You know, I just watched the Michael Moore documentary Sicko. (I was home sick for a few days, so it seemed appropriate.) It is well worth watching. Two points you make are addressed there.

In France, the government is "afraid" of the people. If the people are pissed off, they march. They make their wishes know. In America, we are afraid of the government.

Universal health care is not a "socialist threat". It is very much a reality in many countries, and their citizens (Canada, England, France) have longer life spans than Americans because they focus on prevention.

So, if we are going to do something, we need to stop putting jackasses like the Rev. Wrong in the spotlight and focus on issues that make a difference to the quality of our lives.

Anyone wanna march on Washington? The cherry blossoms might still be in bloom.

Jess: I would like you to have lunch with RQ and talk of the health care system in England. She has some first hand knowledge of it as her cousin worked for the Health Care System for over 20 years. My wife was taken ill in England and was "seen" immediately by a specialist. they laughed at me when I wanted to pay for services. People here are told about horror stories,...this family knows none of those.
Yes,..if you want a nose job you will have to wait.

recommended reading on "universal health care in OTHER countries that work.
"SICK AROUND THE WORLD" X T.R.Reid
There is also a film with this book. Tells of the success of "universal" health care in: Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Norway, France, England, etc.
It is probably available at your local and friendly library.
